For Michaelmas Term 2011 we offer the following children's classes:

Group 1: Die Die Krabbelkinder (toddlers) for 1 – 2½ year olds accompanied by parents
Group 2: Die Marienkäfer (ladybirds) for 2½ – 3½ year olds accompanied by parents
Group 3: Die Schmetterlinge (butterflies) for 4 – 6 year olds un/accompanied by parents
Group 4: Die Eulen (owls) for 6 – 10 year olds
Group 5: Deutsch als Erstsprache for children from 5 years upwards
Group 1: Die Krabbelkinder (toddlers) for 1 – 2½ year olds
This group has fun singing, moving to music, painting, doing Fingerspiele, listening to stories and celebrating traditional festivals.
Group 2: Die Marienkäfer (ladybirds) for 2½ – 3½ year olds
The children in this group will explore the topics set out below in a playful mode and atmosphere. The teaching will employ a variety of visual and listening aids to illustrate new vocabulary and concepts and focus on improving both the listening and speaking skills. Singing, moving to music and words, listening to stories, playing board games are all used among other methods to enhance the understanding and elementary use of German.
Group 3: Die Schmetterlinge (butterflies) for 4 – 6 year olds
The children in this group should have a rudimentary command of German i.e. listening and speaking skills. The course will focus on broadening vocabulary and developing listening and speaking skills by using traditional and modern stories, games, songs, dance and art and exploring and celebrating typical festivals. This course also introduces the written word in reading and writing for school-age children. The course is based on variety of materials.

Group 4: Die Eulen (owls) for 6 – 10 year olds
The children in this group should be fairly confident in asking and answering questions and using simple sentences. They should have started reading in German and have some command of writing in German. This course will focus on all the four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Stories, games, songs and typical festivals will be part of this course, too. The course will be based on own materials as well as using “Sicher zum Grundwortschatz” (Klett-Verlag) as well as excerpts from “Sprachbausteine, Lese- und Sprachbuch” (Diesterweg-Verlag) plus appropriate exercises from the LÜK program (Westermann-Verlag).

Group 5: Deutsch als Erstsprache
Dieser Unterricht ist für Kinder ab 5 Jahren. Er wendet sich an Kinder, die eine englische Schule besuchen und die hauptsächlich ihre schriftlichen Deutschkenntnisse verbessern möchten. Der Kurs beinhaltet das Schreiben von Diktaten und Aufsätzen und damit verbunden eine Erweiterung des Vokabulars und der Ausdrucksweise. Ungenauigkeiten in der Grammatik werden ebenso angesprochen. Lehrwerke des Deutschunterrichts an deutschen Schulen liegen dem Unterricht zugrunde. Unterrichtszeit und Ort nach Vereinbarung.
